RTW: I’m in Love, I’m in Love, and I Don’t Care Who Knows It

Road Trip Wednesday is a ‘Blog Carnival,’ where YA Highway’s contributors post a weekly writing- or reading-related question that begs to be answered. In the comments, you can hop from destination to destination and get everybody’s unique take on the topic.

We’d love for you to participate! Just answer the prompt on your own blog and leave a link — or, if you prefer, you can include your answer in the comments.

This Week’s Topic:

What’s your numero-uno reason for writing?

I hope you can keep a secret, because I’m in love. I’m not just talking about Mr. Atkins. There is another that shares my affections.

Most of the time, it’s the best kind of love. When I’m sad, it makes me feel better.

After a long day, it massages my poor muscles.

We find ways to spend time with each other, sometimes against all odds.

Sometimes, the relationship is more one-sided, and I’m left in the cold.

But nobody better say anything about my love, because I will not stand for it!

Because in the end, it makes me feel like this:

I write because I love it. I love words, and scenes, and stories, and characters. I love the creative process. I love finding that one perfect word. I love my protags and antags, and everyone in-between.

I love it all.

That’s why I write.

What about you?

Yey, gifs!! And how apt they are. I’m much more a cat person than a dog person, so the one with the cat swatting the dog really touched my heart. :) And you’re right–the whole creative process of crafting characters, scenes, dialog, and knitting it together into a story… there’s nothing like it.

    • Kris Atkins says:

I’m both a dog and cat person, though I like dogs more (and only own dogs, but that’s not by choice). Not sure if I love writing or my dogs more. THAT is a hard choice.

    • Kris Atkins says:

It does indeed! But absence from a painfully-kneading cat probably doesn’t make it grow fonder (for the kneading at least).
(I’m guessing. I don’t have a cat. Just dogs that act like cats.)

You said it best – LOVE! I love creating people and places and situations and putting it all together. I love it when I’ve written something that I’m actually proud of. Or that makes me feel like I just ate a gigantic cookie. Both are good!

    • Kris Atkins says:

It’s so true–the best is when you’re proud of it. Yet, sometimes I’m happy even when I know it’s not great, but I still loved writing that scene.
The best yet is being proud that you ate a gigantic cookie, though. No competition.
